Stephen Pencil
INSTRUCTOR: BUSHIN LONDON
Background: Taekwondo, Jujitsu, Krav Maga, Defence lab, 4D Combat, Wrestling, No Gi BJJ
Before joining Bushin I had trained in Taekwondo, Jujitsu and Krav maga for several years but it always just felt like there was something missing. I was eager to find some way to combine the sportive styles that I had trained, such as Taekwondo, and the combative styles, like Krav maga, as they seemed worlds apart and, at the time, I had no idea how I could integrate them. Because of this I found myself either “doing” Taekwondo or “doing” Krav during sparring, literally jumping between stances, guards and styles mid action which felt forced and cumbersome.
Fortunately when close friend of mine first introduced me to Bushin I knew immediately that this was the answer I had been looking for.
Now, almost a decade later, I run my own Bushin class and have added several more martial arts to my repertoire, cross training in Defencelab, 4d combat, BJJ, Muay Thai and more, but always coming back to Bushin as the key framework to integrate the best aspects of these disparate arts into one cohesive and coherent fighting style.

Cailey Barker
FOUNDER of bushin (retired)
Bushin was created in 2009 by Sensei Cailey Barker drawing on over 30 years of martial arts experience.
Having studied numerous different martial arts he felt that many traditional styles had the discipline and structure but lacked the required practicality, functionality and flexibility to adapt to today’s world.
Conversely, modern fighting styles lacked the discipline, precision and technical skill of the older more established arts often focusing on ring craft and sportive application over street readiness.
To address this he formulated a syllabus comprised of the combined best and most functional techniques from several martial arts, to form one holistic martial art
